2017 Great Lakes Hop and Barley Conference

The Great Lakes Hop and Barley Conference will feature separate basic and advanced sessions for hop growers as well as a barley session and malting tour designed for both growers and brewers.

A Matter of Balance: Feeding our Crops, Protecting the Waters of the Great Lakes

Nitrogen, phosphorus, livestock manure and other organic inputs are essential for soil health, crop growth and farm profitability, but nutrients that escape from the field are potential pollutants. On-farm nutrient management and application technologies have greatly improved in recent years, yet water quality problems associated with excess nutrients and other contaminants persist in Lake Erie, Saginaw Bay and other waterways.

Project FISH Workshop

Date: March 8, 2017 - March 8, 2017
Location: 152 Natural Resources Building, Michigan State University

Registration for this fishing instructor workshop can be found at http://www.projectfish.org/anrweek2017.pdf. There is a lot to learn about how to start a fishing program in your local community, and this workshop has it all, from aquatic ecology and tackle making to actual angling skills such as catching, cleaning and preparing fish. This program’s focus will be how to be successful in getting kids and families fishing. Project FISH will provide resources for low-cost, stewardship-oriented materials and connections so you can have fun creating our future natural resources stewards. You will receive curriculum, rod and reel, a backyard bass game, tackle and materials, and lunch. This workshop is partially funded by the BOSCH Community Fund.

Michigan State University Extension will host the Food and Drug Administration-defined Produce Safety Alliance Grower Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) certification course at various locations. Anyone interested in learning about Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), produce safety, co-management, and the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety Rule are invited to participate.
